On the 1st of January Deutschlandfunk interviewed Candice Gordon, Head of Cultural Affairs at the Embassy of Ireland in Germany, about the forthcoming exciting Zeitgeist Irland 24 programme of Irish arts in Germany to take place over the course of 2024.

On the programme Fazit, Britta Bürger asked Ms. Gordon what about the ‘zeitgeist’ of contemporary Irish arts which goes beyond the cultural concepts of Ireland that the German public are so familiar with. “While respecting our cultural heritage, Irish artists have always been known for having an eye on the future and on breaking boundaries,” replied Gordon.

Asked about the cultural relations between the two countries, Gordon remarked “many of the creative diaspora from Ireland have already worked in Germany and built up their careers here, and the objective now through Zeitgeist Irland 24 is to further build up cultural networks and generate a lot of new opportunities… We are working with many established and well-regarded German partners, for example in Staatstheater Mainz and with the Festival of Animated Film in Stuttgart.”
